MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Minneapolis police arrested two suspects Tuesday after five Black Lives Matters protesters were shot one block from the police department where they have held daily demonstrations since the police shooting death of an unarmed black man.
About 10:40 p.m. Monday, "a group of white supremacists showed up at the protest, as they have done most nights," Miski Noor, a Black Live Matters spokeswoman, said. When the protesters attempted to herd the counter-demonstrators away from the area they "opened fire on about six protesters," hitting five of them.
None of the injuries was considered life threatening.
Police said on Tuesday they arrested two of three white male suspects, including a 23-year-old man in Bloomington, Minn.
The protesters have maintained a presence outside the police station since Jamar Clark, 24, was shot and killed by police. Police said Clark was a suspect in an assault and was shot as he was interfering with paramedics trying to help the victim.
The shooting set off a week of protests, some violent.
