INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to child pornography and sex charges.

Fogle, 38, pleaded guilty to one count each of receipt of child pornography and traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor as part of a deal worked out with prosecutors in August. In exchange, Fogle, who became the restaurant's spokesman after he famously lost weight exclusively eating Subway sandwiches, promised not to seek a sentence of less than five years in prison and prosecutors agreed to recommend a sentence of no more than 12 1/2 years.

Ultimately the judge had the final say on the sentence, handing down the 15-year, eight-month sentence. Fogle could have been sentenced to up to 50 years in prison on the two counts.

In the hours before the sentencing, forensic psychiatrist Dr. John Bradford testified Fogle is hypersexual, a "mild" pedophiliac and an alcoholic. Bradford said Fogle admitted to paying a minimum of $12,000 a year for sex, including to have sex with 16- and 17-year-old children.

"His main interest was in young females and some interest in adolescent males," Bradford said.

Bradford said Fogle had a compulsive eating disorder before his 245-pound weight loss from the Subway diet. After losing the pounds, he developed compulsive hypersexuality disorder.

"He certainly engaged in sex over a significant period of time. He engaged in that extensively when he was working for the Subway Corp.," Bradford said.
