WORCESTER, Mass., Nov. 16 (UPI) -- A U.S. Army Reserve armory in Worcester, Mass., was broken into and several weapons are now missing, the FBI said.
Investigators combed through a hillside Sunday evening near the Lincoln W. Stoddard U.S. Army Reserve Center to look for evidence, Telegram reported. The FBI confirmed weapons were taken sometime Saturday night, but did not specify the weapon type or amount missing.
"The FBI is aware that some weapons are missing as a result of the break-in at the Army Reserve Center in Worcester," FBI spokeswoman Kristen M. Setera said in a statement. "We have entered those weapons into [the National Crime Information Center], a national database, and alerted our federal, state and local law enforcement partners."
Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said the investigation is in its early stages, WCVB-5 reports. The FBI is working with Massachusetts State Police and Worcester Police to recover the missing weapons.
"There is no indication that these missing weapons are connected to any kind of terrorism threat whatsoever," Setera said. "Nevertheless, every effort will be made to recover these weapons immediately."
The suspects are believed to have entered the armory through the roof.
