WASHINGTON, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Hacking group Anonymous has begun publishing the emails and phone numbers of Ku Klux Klan members online after making threats against the white supremacist group last week.

The release of data is a part of so-called operation "#OpKKK."

The group published 23 email addresses and 57 phone numbers allegedly belonging to KKK members on Sunday and Monday, using the text-sharing website Pastebin.

The International Business Times and FOX 2 say the member details have not been verified.

The full revelation will be complete by Thursday to coincide with the group's global protest, the Million Mask March. The source says Twitter accounts affiliated with the KKK have reacted angrily to the dissemination of the info and suggested hosting a rally on the same day as the Million Mask March.

Anonymous planned to release the KKK information to mark the first anniversary of the Ferguson, Mo., protests, when a grand jury's decision not to indict former police Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting of unarmed teen Michael Brown catalyzed widespread criticism and demonstrations.

A statement on a WordPress site apparently devoted to distributing information about Anonymous explained the group's motives for releasing the information.

Speaking to the KKK, the group said "applying transparency to your organizational cells is the right, just, appropriate and only course of action" for a "hate group" composed of "criminals."
