Authorities said the gunman was not apprehended at the scene.

Investigators believe the shooting, which occurred near an entrance to the shopping center, was not a random act of violence.

"It looks like the suspect and the victim knew each other," Indianapolis Deputy Chief of Operations Brian Mahone said. "This [shooting] could've been anywhere these two individuals would've run into each other."

"I knew immediately what it was," shopper Patricia Reason said of hearing the gunfire. "I hid in the fitting room. I called 911 right away as soon as I got in the fitting room."

One of the victims was seriously injured, Fox News reported.

It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting.
