AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Whole Foods Market issued a nationwide recall of Papillon brand organic Roquefort cheese due to a listeria risk.

A sample of the cheese, which was cut, wrapped and weighed at the store, was tested by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and found to contain listeria monocytogenes, bacteria which can cause fever, headache and severe stiffness in joints. The bacteria can be fatal to young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.

The FDA sad the bacteria can contaminate other foods when brought into the home, even if refrigerated. It said no illnesses have been reported thus far.

The recalled product can be identified by PLU 019536 on the label. Customers were urged to throw away the tainted cheese or return it to Whole Foods for a refund.
