BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Indiana University suspended its chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity pending an investigation into a video appearing to show hazing activities.

The fraternity came under scrutiny Wednesday after a video was posted online purporting to show a pledge performing a sexual act on a woman as fellow pledges and members looked on and cheered.

On Wednesday, the university tweeted "Our campus is committed to a culture of care. Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) is suspended immediately, pending investigation into hazing allegations."

University spokesperson Mark Land issued a statement to WTHR in Indiana, saying the fraternity has been barred from hosting social events, sponsoring new members, attending fraternity events and more.

The fraternity has not commented on the suspension.
