Perry County Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith said officials were searching for suspects described as two white males driving a two-door red Ford Ranger with the words "broken arrow" written across the top. The suspects allegedly fired from within the vehicle, then drove away.

Mississippi National Guard Director of Public Affairs Lt. Col. Christian Patterson would not confirm that soldiers were specifically targeted in the shooting, The (Jackson, Miss.) Clarion-Ledger reported.
