By Andrew V. Pestano

WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- One person was killed as a result of severe storms that rolled across the Midwest on Sunday that left up to 230,000 people without power.

Steven Nincic, 35, a Wood Dale, Ill., resident, died after a tent was uprooted and its support beams collapsed, hitting Nincic in the head, due to 60 miles per hour winds and large hail during the Wood Dale Prairie Fest. At least 15 others were taken to the hospital with injuries.

"There was tragic accident at Prairie Fest today, extremely high winds uprooted a tent and many people were injured. The fest is cancelled," Wood Dale Police said in a statement.

In Iowa, a tornado was seen damaging barns, but no injuries were reported.

Michigan was the most affected by the storm, which traveled northeast, where more than 200,000 homes and businesses lost power by late Sunday night.

The Lollapalooza event in Chicago was suspended for an hour because of a thunderstorm. The event then ended a half hour earlier than scheduled.

The thunderstorm forecast for Monday places Cincinnati up toward Maine under the threat of severe weather.
