WASHINGTON, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- A woman was arrested Friday night after she allegedly jumped a barricade in front of the White House.

Brian Leary, spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service, said the woman jumped the barricade, described as a "bike rack," on Pennsylvania Avenue about 7 p.m. She did not jump the fence or make it onto the White House grounds, authorities said. The barricades have been placed several feet in front of the fence.

The woman, who was not identified, was arrested and charged with unlawful entry. The White House was put on lock down for about an hour.

The Secret Service, which protects the president and other U.S. leaders, has come under fire after a series of security lapses. In early July, metal spikes were installed on top of the fence that surrounds the White House to thwart intruders.
