Suspect arrested after firing shots on University of Florida campus

GAINESVILLE, Fla., July 27 (UPI) -- One person has been arrested by University of Florida police after shots were fired outside a student residence building near the football stadium. No one was injured.

An alert was sent out by the University of Florida shortly before 3:30 a.m. Monday reporting that shots were fired at the parking lot of the Murphree Hall residence building, north of UF's Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, in Gainesville, Fla.

One white male suspect was reported taken into custody about 20 minutes later.

A possible witness in a blue Mazda truck fled the scene.
