PHOENIX, July 26 (UPI) -- A woman and her two dogs were apparently decapitated by her husband, who then severed his own arm and gouged out his right eye in Phoenix, Ariz., on Saturday.

The body of the victim, Trina Heisch, 49, was discovered at about 9:45 a.m. after a neighbor saw that her apartment's walls and floor were covered in blood. Several knives were found inside.

The identity of the 43-year-old suspect has not been released. The victim and suspect met recently at a mental health facility and later married. The suspect was previously arrested in 2003 for attempting to kill a family member. The victim was arrested in March after she was accused of attempting to stab the suspect.

"It was an absolutely horrific scene," police spokesman Sgt.Trent Crump said. "These two have a history of a domestic-violence relationship."

The suspect admitted to killing "three family members" and was taken to the hospital for treatment and will be taken to jail after he is released from the hospital, according to Crump.
