WASHINGTON, July 3 (UPI) -- A Maryland man who scaled the White House fence in October and kicked a guard dog was sentenced to time served and a year of supervised release, the Justice Department said.

Dominic Adesanya, 23, was treated for mental illness after he was arrested Oct. 22 for climbing the fence at the North Lawn. He was tackled by security officers about 20 yards past the fence, but not before he kicked a guard dog.

He pleaded guilty in April to a misdemeanor charge of entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds and has already served about six months in jail. The judge Friday ordered him to stay away from facilities under Secret Service protection, including the White House.

About a month before Adesanya hopped the fence, Omar Gonzalez scaled the same fence and made it inside the White House, a breach that drew deep concerns about security procedures and led to the resignation of Secret Service Director Julia Pierson. Gonzales was sentenced to 1 1/2 years in prison. Spikes were recently added to the White House fence tops.
