BALTIMORE, July 3 (UPI) -- Baltimore police are investigating a sign that reads "Enjoy your ride, cuz we sure will!" inside a police van.

A passerby spotted the sign inside a back door of a parked police van near the Central District Police Station and snapped a few pictures. The images quickly circulated on social media, raising questions about who put the sign in place and why.

Police said the department is taking the sign "very seriously" and investigating the matter.

"The nature and the posting of the wording is both concerning and unacceptable," Baltimore City Police Sgt. Jarron Jackson said. "Deputy Police Commissioner Dean Palmere has ordered that an inspection of all departmental vehicles be conducted. Internal investigations will be initiated when appropriate."

The images appeared as the city is still reeling over the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody and subsequent protests and riots. Gray suffered fatal injuries after being shackled in the back of a Baltimore police transport van. Six Baltimore police officers have been indicted in his death.
