FESTUS , Mo., July 2 (UPI) -- Rescue workers continued to search for people possibly trapped by flash flooding Thursday morning after a storm dropped five inches of rain overnight.

Jefferson County authorities said they were looking for possible victims trapped inside vehicles when floodwaters swept over Buck Creek Spur as the rains fell Wednesday night into early Thursday.

"A couple cars were taken off a bridge," said Warren Robinson, director of the Office of Emergency Management in Jefferson County." "We don't know if there are still people inside those cars."

As the stormwaters rose, some 60 to 70 boat rescues were used to evacuate residents at Lakeside Manor and Lifestyle Mobile Home Parks in Festus, located about 35 miles outside St. Louis.

One resident told CBS St. Louis, "I looked outside and there was four feet of water all the way up to my neck, and there was a boat there."

There have been no reports of serious injury.

This is the second time in recent weeks the St. Louis area has seen flooding. On June 19, about 20 homes were flooded when the River Des Peres burst its banks.
