Small plane crash kills two near Dallas

QUINLAN, Texas, July 1 (UPI) -- A single-engine airplane crashed Wednesday afternoon near Dallas, killing two men, a local law enforcement official said.

The plane, a Piper P-28 Cherokee, crashed around 1:30 p.m. shortly after taking off from Rockin' M Airport in Quinlan, Texas, Texas State Trooper Kyle Bradford told UPI. The airport is located about 40 miles northeast of Dallas.

"For some as-yet-undetermined reason the plane crashed in a grassy area off County Road 3511," Bradford said.

Both men were dead when emergency officials arrived on the scene. Bradford said no one on the ground was injured by the crash.

The plane burst into flames upon crashing.

The plane's destination and where the men were from was unclear. Officials were investigating the cause of the incident.
