WASHINGTON, May 3 (UPI) -- House Speaker John Boehner says Hillary Clinton should support President Obama on a trade deal he's trying to get past Congress.

Boehner was interviewed on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday, and he said he believes Clinton supports the deal, but he wants Clinton to publicly support it.

"The fact is, the President needs her help in order to get Democrats, those in the House and Senate, to get this passed," Boehner said.

The trade agreement he is referencing is called the Trans-Pacific Partnership. It involves the United States, Japan, Australia and several other major countries. The president is trying to get "fast track" authority from Congress, which means legislators would have limited debate time and couldn't amend the agreement.

Many members of the president's own party oppose the deal. The text of the deal is confidential, but leaked documents show some aspects of the deal. Many experts who have seen the leaked documents believe the deal would hurt the economy, could allow corporations to sue governments over laws that hurt their business, could weaken healthcare and could promote Internet censorship.
