WASHINGTON, April 21 (UPI) -- Jerome Hunt, the last person to breach White House security by jumping over the fence, was released from jail Monday afternoon.

Hunt, 54, from Hayward, Calif., was charged with unlawful entry, a misdemeanor that could be punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. He will be required to undergo a mental health evaluation and to wear a GPS tracking monitor.

Hunt was carrying a suspicious package when he scaled the fence of the south side of the White House complex at 10:30 p.m. Sunday but was quickly arrested by the Secret Service.

The package was examined and deemed harmless, according to Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary.

The White House may implement steel spikes on the tips of the perimeter fence to fend off jumpers. The current fence is about eight feet tall.

"Another one?" Tim Scanlon, who has led White House tours for a decade, asked when asked about another fence jumper.

"I don't want it looking like a detention camp," Scanlon said, referring to additional security measures. "So the Secret Service and related just need to do their job more effectively."

The Secret Service has been under scrutiny recently. In September, Omar Gonzalez was charged for jumping the White House fence. Police said he was carrying a folding knife and that a search of his car revealed he had about 800 rounds of ammunition, a machete and two hatchets.
