All the passengers appear to have escaped the roller coaster unharmed, but some said the slow climb from high up on the open structure left them feeling shaken.

According to New York City TV station, WPIX, the Cyclone has never jammed in its 88 years of operation. An annual "Blessing of the Rides" ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at 10:30 a.m. to mark the seasonal opening of Coney Island attractions; the mishap occurred about 90 minutes later.

No injuries were reported.

The official Twitter account of Luna Park, the Coney Island amusement park where the iconic roller coaster is located, tweeted the mishap was an isolated issue and safety was its first priority.
