WASHINGTON, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- President Obama recently told Vox in an exclusive interview that he supports the idea of amending the constitution to regulate political campaign spending.

Obama believes the high level of political spending coming from private donors is polarizing the nation, and he thinks it needs to change. Citizens United v. FEC, the Supreme Court case from 2010 that made it so independent political spending by a nonprofit corporation could not be restricted, is one thing the president wants to see changed. He said in an "Ask Me Anything" chat on Reddit in 2012 that it needs to be overturned.

McCutcheon v. FEC further opened up how much private money can go toward promoting a political candidate in 2014 by eliminating the $123,200 cap on personal donations to candidates and political committees. President Obama believes these kind of changes in law are making elections more expensive and causing a divide in the nation.
