Parking deck collapse in New Jersey likely due to heavy snow pileup

A blizzard sweeping in from the Midwest to Northeastern states on the Interstate 95 corridor is expected to drop up to two feet of snow on Monday and Tuesday.

SECAUCUS, N.J., Jan. 25 (UPI) -- The partial collapse of a parking deck in New Jersey on Saturday is being blamed on heavy snow pileup as a large winter storm moves in on the Northeast.

A worker was plowing snow from the top level of a three-floor parking garage in Secaucus when a large hole opened up beneath the vehicle, sending it and a sizable portion of the surrounding deck crashing onto a lower floor.

"We imagine that it was the weight of the snow," building manager Mike Seeve told CBS2.

The driver was sent to the hospital but is now recovering at home. No one else was injured in the accident, but at least one car was reportedly smashed beyond saving.

Up to two feet of snow is expected in areas of the Northeast on Monday and Tuesday as a system dubbed "Winter Storm Juno" by the Weather Channel continues sweeping in from the Midwest, causing blizzard-like conditions in states like New Jersey along the Interstate 95 corridor.

Heavy snow and ice storms in the region earlier this month resulted in a series of accidents and deaths.
