CHATSWORTH, Calif., Jan. 25 (UPI) -- A small dog is the only survivor of a car accident that claimed the lives of two people early Sunday in California.
Just past midnight in Chatsworth, Calif., a vehicle traveling at an unknown speed plowed through guard rails and rode off the 118 Freeway, falling into a ravine between an off ramp and the freeway itself, police say.
Officers of the California Highway Patrol discovered two people inside the car had been killed in the crash, but a small white dog was found outside the wreckage. His collar read "Harley," and crews said he was in good condition despite the level of damage to the vehicle and the height of the plunge.
Now at West Valley Animal Shelter, Harley will be put up for adoption if the victims' heirs do not claim the dog in 30 days.
