WASHINGTON, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- The White House has spent months writing and rewriting Barack Obama's State of the Union address. But it was the president's off-script comeback to Republican jeers that became one of Tuesday night's buzziest moments.

As part of his prepared remarks, Obama called on Congress to work across party lines.

"I have no more campaigns to run," Obama began.

When Republicans responded with applause and jeers, the president hit back with an ad-libbeded retort.

"I know because I won both of them," he said, to cheers from Democrats.

The president's quip generated plenty of social media discussion and its own hashtag, "iwonbothofthem."
