NEW YORK, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani went on CBS' Face the Nation Sunday to say New York's current mayor, Bill de Blasio, should apologize to the NYPD.

Giuliani said de Blasio created "an impression with police that he was on the side of the protesters" during the Eric Garner protests in New York. De Blasio spoke at a press conference after a grand jury decided not to indict the officer who killed Eric Garner and made comments that sounded like he supported the protesters more than the police force.

Police who attended slain officer Rafael Ramos' funeral on Saturday turned their backs to de Blasio when he gave a eulogy, and a New York police union has even encouraged officers to ban de Blasio from their funeral if they're killed on duty.

Giuliani said de Blasio should not be blamed for the murders of officer Ramos and officer Wenjian Liu. "The mayor of the city of New York should not be blamed for the murder of those police officers. That issue should not have been injected. It's wrong. I told the mayor that yesterday. And I don't support that," Giuliani said.
