CHICAGO, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's 17-year-old son was grabbed and robbed of his belongings on Friday night outside the family's home in the north of Chicago.

The teenager was walking on the sidewalk just a few blocks from the Emanuel's Ravenswood home at about 10:00 p.m. when two men grabbed him and riffled through his pockets, patting him down and absconding with his cell phone.

The teen, Zach Emanuel, was knocked to the ground during the scuffle. One man reportedly struck him in the face, while the other put him in a choke hold. In the wake of the attack, he was treated for cuts and bruises on his face by a personal physician at the Emanuel's home.

Mayor Emanuel and his wife Amy were home at the time of the attack, but it wasn't clear where the mayor's round-the-clock security detail was.

The family is scheduled to leave this week for a trip to Chile over the holidays.

"The Mayor's focus is on his son's well-being, and as parents, he and Amy ask that the media respect their family's privacy at this time," Emanuel spokeswoman Kelley Quinn said in the statement.
