CHICAGO, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Nadia Ezaldein, a 22-year-old Nordstrom worker gunned down by an ex-boyfriend on Black Friday, has died from her injuries.

Authorities confirmed that Ezaldein, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., died late Saturday night. Ezaldein had been attending the University of Chicago. Her ex-boyfriend Marcus Dee, 31, of Chicago, shot Ezaldein on her 22nd birthday, according to family members.

The incident occurred on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Dee walked into the Nordstrom and shot Ezaldein in the head, police said. Dee then shot himself; police arrived at the scene and found him dead and Ezaldein injured. She was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Relatives said Ezaldein had broken up with Dee a year ago, after being physically and mentally abused by him. They said the abuse continued after the couple split. "It was like months and months of psychological torment," Ezaldein's brother told the Chicago Sun-Times of his sister's rocky relationship with Dee. "I would say there was a lot of emotionally traumatizing phrases and words."
