NEW YORK, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- An American Airlines airplane was boarded by authorities at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Sunday after an apparent bomb threat.

The plane was traveling from Barcelona to New York, New York Daily News reports, and the city fire department cleared the area to inspect the plane. The Boeing 767 was carrying 200 passengers.

The response was based on a phone call the Port Authority Police received that they interpreted to be a bomb threat. The plane was inspected for two hours with dogs and bomb detecting equipment, and no bombs or bomb making material were discovered.

"American Airlines apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused, however, the safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority," the American Airlines spokeswoman said.
