RIVERHEAD, N.Y., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- In unrelated incidents, two people were stabbed in New York in the wee hours of Black Friday. Both incidents took place in the vicinity of major retailers -- one in a Costco restroom, the other outside an Old Navy Store.

But while overzealous shoppers and unruly crowds on Black Friday required the attention of police in incidents of violence and chaos around the country, the two stabbing incidents in New York were apparently unrelated to shoppers eager for discounts.

One of the stabbings featured a pair of employees. A Costco worker was attacked with a boxcutter by a colleague in the bathroom of the Nanuet, New York, store. The victim in that attack was stabbed in the face and abdomen. He was taken to Nyack Hospital for treatment but was expected to survive. The attack apparently stemmed from a previous disagreement between the two employees.

Police are currently searching for the stabber; they said the suspect fled the scene prior to their arrival at the store.

A second stabbing occurred outside an Old Navy Store at the Tanger Outlets in Riverhead, New York. The fight was also unrelated to holiday shopping, with the victim suffering injuries to the torso and face. The man was transported to the Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries.
