WASHINGTON, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- With deals abounding for Black Friday shoppers, the all-too typical scuffling for TVs and other items in America spread across the pond this year to Britain, where shopping strife broke out in several locations.

Police shut down a Tesco in Lea Valley after customers scrambled over a display of electric coffee machines. A reporter filming the scene was aggressively told "No cameras!" Police closed the store after scuffles broke out. Shoppers reported more incidents at a Sainsbury store in the area.

As Black Friday dawned in the United States, brawls were reported at Walmarts in Houston, Michigan City, Ind., and in Los Angeles, where a fight broke out over a $5 Barbie doll. The chain kicked off its sales at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.

Walmart Vice President Laura Phillips told CNN that business on Thanksgiving was "awesome." She reported 22 million shoppers in Walmart stores as deals began on Thursday.

Some stores remained closed on the holiday. Costco remained closed on Thanksgiving, saying its employees "deserved" the day off to be with their families. The store opened for business on Friday.
