ANNAPOLIS, Md., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- A 23-year-old Maryland woman remains in critical condition on Thanksgiving Day after a car she was riding in struck the side of a bridge and fell 75 feet into the creek below. The crash occurred in the wee hours of Thursday morning near Annapolis.
The woman, Laura Blaha, suffered life threatening-injuries as she was ejected from the car when it crashed into the creek bed. Police said the car struck the center median before losing control, hitting the bridge structure and flipping up and off.
Blaha, who was airlifted to Maryland Shock Trauma, was one of three people riding in 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The driver and other passenger refused medical care. Police said alcohol and excessive speed likely played a role in the accident.
