ST. LOUIS, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- FBI agents searching for a man suspected of killing his mother and shooting a police officer were wounded in a standoff near St. Louis early Wednesday.

Neither agent's injuries were life-threatening, said Rebecca Wu, a spokeswoman for the bureau. She said one took a bullet in the shoulder and the other in the leg.

The agents, assisting University City police, went to a house in the northern part of St. Louis County late Tuesday, searching for Major Washington, 33. Washington faces charges that include the murder of his mother.

One neighbor told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch she was advised to stay in her house. She said she ended up sleeping in the basement because she did not want to be close to windows.

Washington allegedly shot his mother Saturday and then fired at a police officer who responded to a 911 call.

Washington was believed to remain barricaded in the house after the FBI agents were wounded. Police described him as armed and dangerous.

Wu said the shooting was not connected to the violence in Ferguson, Mo.
