WASHINGTON, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- The Obama administration is expected to unveil Wednesday a new regulation aimed at curbing ozone emissions.

The proposed regulation would lower the threshold for acceptable amounts of ozone released into the environment. Its targets are the spewing smoke stacks of factories and power plant across the country.

Ozone has been linked to health conditions such as asthma and heart disease and public health advocates have lobbied President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency to curb emissions.

But Republicans and industries that would be affected by the regulation, such as power and oil companies, are looking for ways to scuttle the changes.
