Garth Brooks cancels tv appearances in wake of Ferguson

Brooks, 52, released his latest studio album, "Man Against Machine," Nov. 11.

NEW YORK, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Saying it felt wrong to hawk his new album while America dealt with civil unrest in the wake of the Ferguson grand jury decision, Garth Brooks canceled several scheduled TV appearances for the week.

In a statement posted to his Facebook page on Tuesday, Brooks said:

We landed in NY last night to the news of the civil unrest that was going on in our nation. To spend the day promoting our stuff like nothing was wrong, seemed distasteful to me. I will gladly reschedule any or all appearances the networks will allow. Love one another, g

Brooks was scheduled to appear on Tuesday's Live! With Kelly and Michael, on Thursday's Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Friday's Today. All of those were cancelled. Brooks did appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday, but the segment had been pretaped.
