FERGUSON, Mo., Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Pockets of unrest roiled for a second night in Ferguson, Missouri, as protesters took to the streets again in response to a grand jury decision not to indict a white police officer in the fatal shooting of an unarmed 18-year-old black teenager.

Protests also unfolded in cities across the United States as thousands took to the streets to express their unhappiness with the grand jury's decision.

Protests in Ferguson were mostly peaceful for much of the day, but tensions increased once night fell.

Outside City Hall a group flipped over a police car and set it on fire. Police ordered the crowd to disperse or be arrested. Smoke canisters were lobbed at protesters as police tried to clear the streets.

In front of the Ferguson Police Station, city police and members of the National Guard formed a barrier around the building. A smaller group of protesters demonstrated there peacefully.

Protesters took to the streets in communities across the country, too. In New York City, they blocked traffic on several of Manhattan's busiest roads. A group attempted to cross the Brooklyn Bridge but were turned back by police.

In Los Angeles, hundreds rallied outside LAPD Headquarters. Other protesters block traffic on the 101 Freeway. Protests also took place in San Francisco and Oakland.

In Minneapolis, a car drove through a crowd of protesters, injuring one woman, but not seriously. The driver pulled over away from protesters and called 911 to report the incident. It's not clear if he will be cited.

Sizable protests were also seen in Portland, Ore., Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Boston, Cleveland and other cities. Students walked out of classes in Seattle.
