SAN DIEGO, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Following allegations that Capt. Wayne Brown of the U.S. Navy was verbally abusive with crew members and inappropriate with women, he's been relieved of duty.

An investigation found he had been "hostile" and "offensive" with crew members, and he allegedly inappropriately touched female crew members, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Brown was commanding the USS Boxer ship, which is an important amphibious assault ship.

"Capt. Brown's leadership style is caustic and intimidating and is something he would consider 'old school' or from the '80s," one crew member said, according to the report.

The investigation found he would regularly ask female crew members if they were using birth control with the men they slept with, because he claimed to be worried about losing crew members over pregnancies, which had happened before.

He is the 12th commanding officer of a Navy ship to be relieved this year, according to the Navy Times.
