WOODSTOCK, Ill., Nov. 23 (UPI) -- A fast-moving blaze at a suburban Illinois stable just outside of Chicago killed 32 horses Saturday night.

According to a post on the Valley View Acres Facebook page, only 5 horses were saved from the fire.

A fire official told the Chicago Sun-Times that a resident near the barn woke to "crackling sounds," looked out his window and saw the fire. The two-story barn collapsed in the blaze fueled by the hay, officials said.

The stable, which boards horses, is located in a rural area without fire hydrants, according to the Chicago Tribune. First responders sent out a call for help and firefighters responded from 27 surrounding jurisdictions.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital and released.

Five horses escaped the fire and were later found unharmed in a nearby pasture.
