CAPE CORAL, Fla., Nov. 6 (UPI) -- A man who bought a foreclosed house in Cape Coral, Fla., got a shock when he discovered a body on the floor of the master bedroom.

William Wilson, 61, went to check out his purchase Wednesday, after making the winning $96,000 bid at an auction Tuesday. He said the house was full of boxes as if someone had been packing to move.

Wilson called police immediately after finding the corpse.

"You couldn't tell who it was," Wilson told the News-Press. "You couldn't tell if it was a male or a female ... it's disappointing and a sad thing that nobody cared enough to check."

Neighbors said the last occupant of the house was an elderly woman. Gary Oben Jr., who lives next door, said he saw her a few times over the years, when she watered the lawn or got her mail, but said she did not speak English well and kept to herself.

Authorities said the most recent mail they found in the house dated from November 2011. Taxes had not been paid on the property for three years.

Cape Coral police said the body is now with the medical examiner, who will determine the cause of death. Police said there is no reason so far to believe the death involved a crime.
