Texas governor's race already called in textbook

Abbott is expected to handily win the governor's race, but Davis is predicting "the biggest political upset in Texas history."

NEW YORK, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- It's hours before final returns come in for the Texas governor's race, but one political science textbook already called the race, naming Greg Abbott the winner weeks ahead of Election Day.

The second edition of Calvin Jillson's textbook, Lone Star Tarnished, refers to current Texas Attorney General and Republican candidate for governor Abbott as "Governor Greg Abbott" in the preface.

Jillson, a political science professor at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, must have felt pretty confident about that outcome, because the book went to print in mid-October.

Abbott faces Democratic Texas Sen. Wendy Davis for the governor's seat, which is being vacated by Republican Gov. Rick Perry.

"Most people have already factored in a Davis loss," Jillson told The New York Times. "The question is the dimensions of that loss. She's running through the tape, like your old high school track coach used to tell you."

Lone Star Tarnished is a two-part textbook published by Routledge.
