STAMFORD, Conn., Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Two human skulls dumped at a Connecticut trash transfer station were being examined to make sure they are not evidence of crimes, police said.

The skulls, along with books on witchcraft and Satanism, are believed to have come from the home of a Fairfield man who recently died of a heart attack. His father said that Robert DiVitto bought the skulls online.

"We are trying to determine whether they came from a grave robbery, if they were bought online or something more sinister," Stamford Police Lt. Diedrich Hohn said.

An employee at the transfer station in Stamford spotted the skulls Thursday afternoon and called police. They were in the recycling area.

The skulls were in a load delivered by Junkluggers. The driver said he thought the skulls were plastic until he made a return trip to the dump and saw police cars.

DiVitto's father, also named Robert, said he did not know the skulls were real.

"He would have them on display in the living room, and I'm glad that they're gone now," the father said.
