Hedge fund manager vanishes after collecting $1.5M mistake

Florida money man pulls disappearing act after Credit Suisse sends him $1.5M in error.

SAFETY HARBOR, Fla., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- A Florida hedge fund manager received some unexpected get-away money when European bank Credit Suisse mistakenly wired him $1.5 million.

By the time the bank realized its error, Joseph Galbraith had vanished.

Now the bank is suing him while he's apparently enjoying the bucks in Monaco.

It's unclear how Credit Suisse made not one but three mistaken money transfers to Galbraith's hedge fund early this year. The bank won a judgement against Galbraith Capital Investment Management but by then there were no assets left in the company.

Galbraith at one point claimed to be skiing in Europe and emailed a testy "Don't panic over there, I'm dealing with this," when the bank pressed him to return the funds, according to the lawsuit. That's the last time the bank heard from him.

Galbraith, 42, told the New York Times that he wasn't aware of the suit, and said the accusations against him were "ridiculous, bordering on laughable" and merely an attempt to malign his character.
