ATLANTA, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Law enforcement is investigating the identity of human remains found in Atlanta after a dog came home chewing on a human bone.

The dog's owner, Michael Page, said the 2-year-old boxer named Brix came into his yard Tuesday morning with a large bone in its mouth. Page called police, who determined the bone was, in fact, a human leg bone.

"The medical examiner is saying it looks like from the lower extremity," Lt. Charles Hampton, the homicide commander of the Atlanta Police Department, told CBS 46. "It could be a femur. Could be a tibia. Right now, I'm not sure which one."

Cadaver dogs found more human remains in the area between two boarded up properties. Medical examiners are attempting to identify the gender and approximate age of the body.

Page told WXIA-TV, Atlanta, he believed the body had been in the area for a long time.

"It was there long enough, there was no flesh on the bone," he said. "It was completely dry."
