BENTONVILLE, Ark., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Big-box superstore Walmart has publicly apologized for listing plus-sized women's Halloween costumes as "Fat Girl Costumes" on its official website, calling the decision to do so "unacceptable."

The offensive listing was discovered and reported on by Gawker imprint Jezebel just prior to 10 a.m., about 90 minutes before Walmart began to change their web-copy.

Jezebel reports:

"This tip comes to us from a reader, who was hunting high and low for a Halloween costume when she turned to Walmart, because sometimes desperation makes us do strange things. That's when she noticed that the retail giant was helpfully directing her towards the section for 'fat girl costumes.'"

By 11:15 a.m. Walmart had pulled every item from "Fat Girl Costumes," but the sub-section itself remained. Around 1:30 p.m., Walmart's website was fully scrubbed of the incident, and officials from the company were on a full blown apology tour with the press.

"This never should have been on our site," a Walmart representative told ABC News.

"It is unacceptable, and we apologize. We are working to remove it as soon as possible and ensure this never happens again."
