As election looms, Grimes camp launches 'Shame on you, Mitch' campaign

"It is insulting that you're bragging about voting against Kentucky's women and families," a Kentucky woman in Grimes' ad says of McConnell.

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- With just over a week until the midterm elections, Kentucky senate hopeful Allison Lundergan Grimes is focusing her campaign on what she frames as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's history of failure to stand up for women's issues.

"You've turned your back on our mothers, our daughters, and me," a female Kentuckian accuses McConnell in the ad.

"It is insulting that you're bragging about voting against Kentucky's women and families," says another.

The 47-second spot specifically targets McConnell's record on gender-based wage inequality, with one woman pointing out, "instead of enforcing equal pay for equal work, [Mitch McConnell] called it 'preferential treatment.'"

The ad comes on the heels of a pair of key endorsements for Grimes from major local news outlets The Courier-Journal and Kentucky.com.

"[McConnell] appears lacking a vision for Kentucky or the country as a whole," notes the Courier-Journal editorial board.

"Rather, his decades-long drive to increase his power and political standing has resulted in this campaign based on his boast that if he is re-elected and Republicans win a Senate majority, he would become Senate majority leader ... Kentucky needs a U.S. senator who sees a higher calling than personal ambition and a greater goal than self-aggrandizement."
