SACRAMENTO, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- A 34-year-old man was arrested Friday evening after allegedly shooting to death two California sheriff's deputies, and injuring one other deputy and a civilian.

Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Danny Oliver, 47, was shot once in the forehead after approaching a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a Motel 6. A man and a woman were inside the suspicious vehicle and they fled the scene after shooting Oliver, who died of his injury at a nearby hospital.

The couple led police on an hours-long manhunt, during which time they carried out a series of carjackings. The driver of one vehicle refused to give up their keys to the couple and was shot in the head.

The condition of the driver, whose name wasn't released, was unknown.

Two Placer County sheriff's deputies were later shot when they approached one of the vehicles the couple allegedly carjacked. The two deputies, whose names weren't released, were transported to Sutter Rosevillle Medical Center for medical treatment.

The California Highway Patrol announced on Twitter Friday evening that one of the Placer deputies died at the hospital. The second Placer deputy had an arm injury.

The female suspect, whose name wasn't released, was taken into custody some time after the Placer County deputies were shot, at which time Marquez allegedly fled. He was arrested after he was discovered hiding in an Auburn, Calif., home.
