HAMMOND, Ind., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- The bodies of three more women have been found in Northwest Indiana, bringing the total to seven discovered with the help of their alleged killer.

The grisly search began after a 43-year-old Gary man was arrested Saturday. He is suspected of killing Afrikka Hardy, 19, who was found strangled at a Motel 6 in Hammond, Ind., on Friday evening.

All of the deaths have been ruled homicides.

"We would like to dispel the rumor that there is a serial killer on the loose," Cpl. Gabrielle King of the Gary Police Department said in a statement.

She added that the suspect, not yet identified pending formal charges, led police to the bodies and "has claimed responsibility for their demise."

Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott said in a Facebook post that the suspect had confessed to killings in Hammond, some of them 20 years ago.
