Police say Marshall was a person of interest in connection to the Boles Fire, which began on Sept. 15, destroying 157 homes, 500 acres and eight businesses. Four other homes and three buildings were damaged, including a saw mill that constituted one of the largest employers in Siskiyou County.

The emergency prompted large-scale evacuations before the wildfire was contained on Sept. 20 with the help of approximately 1,000 firefighters.

Marshall is currently in the Siskiyou County jail on $250,000 bail.
