AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- The race to replace Rick Perry in the Texas state house is getting personal, as Republican nominee Greg Abbot is publicly condemning an ad by Democratic opponent Wendy Davis which accuses the wheelchair-bound attorney general of Texas of being a hypocrite for frequently ruling against victims in accident cases.

"A tree fell on Greg Abbott. He sued and got millions," the ad begins, before asserting Abbot "spent his career working against other victims."

Davis' ad cites three specific cases, two where Abbot ruled against female plaintiffs and one where he ruled a hospital was not negligent by hiring an allegedly dangerous doctor.

"Abbott argued [that] a woman whose leg was amputated was not disabled because she had an artificial limb. He ruled against a rape victim who sued a corporation for failing to do a background check on a sexual predator. He sided with a hospital that failed to stop a dangerous surgeon who paralyzed patients"

Abbot's campaign slammed Davis for the ad, calling it a "historic low" for focusing on Abbot's disability.

"It is challenging to find language strong enough to condemn Sen. Davis' disgusting television ad, which represents a historic low for someone seeking to represent Texans. Sen. Davis' ad shows a disturbing lack of judgment from a desperate politician, and completely disqualifies her from seeking higher office in Texas."
