SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., Oct. 9 (UPI) -- A man accused of shooting three people, leaving one dead, in San Bernardino, Calif., was captured and arrested in Mexico.

Alfonso Garcia, Jr., 32, a U.S. citizen, was arrested Sunday by Mexican Federal Police in Baja, Mexico, the FBI said. He was charged with three counts of attempted murder for the June 21 shootings of Richard Loera, Luis Loera Martinez and Arnulfo Loero.

Martinez died of his injuries two months later, Aug. 26. Because of the death, prosecutors are considering amending the charges, the FBI said.

Garcia allegedly shot the three men over a dispute about a fence line between two homes.

"It was neighbor versus neighbor: Garcia and his dad versus three people on the other side of the fence," homicide Sgt. Gary Robertson told The (Riverside, Calif.) Press-Enterprise.

"He did admit to shooting the three victims," Robertson added. "But he states it was basically in self-defense."

Garcia on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was being held on $2 million bond at the San Bernardino Central Jail.
