NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- A tractor-trailer lost control and ended up dangling off the edge of the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel on I-664 from Norfolk to Newport News, Va., Tuesday.

The driver of the auto parts delivery truck suffered only minor injuries when he lost control of the truck and sent it into the railing. The truck broke apart, with part of the trailer falling into the James River and the rest dangling off the edge.

According to Virginia State Police, other vehicles were involved in the crash, but no other people were injured.

Allan Parrott, president of Tidewater Fleet Supply, said the truck was carrying items like antifreeze and other automotive supplies, and hazmat crews were assisting in the clean-up.

Northbound lanes on the bridge were closed for about two hours, and while one lane was reopened around 3 p.m., traffic was still delayed.
