Nikki Haley lead down to 10 points in S.C. re-election

COLUMBIA, S.C., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- A recent poll of South Carolina voters show Republican Gov. Nikki Haley holding onto the narrowest lead in a year over her Democrat opponent, Vincent Sheheen.

Haley leads Sheheen by 10 points in the poll, released Wednesday by Winthrop University, 43.6 percent to 33.6 percent.

Independent Tom Ervin got 3.9 percent of the votes, while 12.4 percent said they were undecided.

A CBS News/NYT/YouGov poll in August showed Haley with a 21 point lead over Sheheen, the largest since polling began last October, and up from 17 points in the previous CBS survey in July. Another, from Rasmussen, gave Haley a 15 point lead.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., holds a more comfortable lead over his Democratic challenger, Brad Hutto of Orangeburg. Graham has the support of 46.7 percent of voters polled, compared to Hutto's 28 percent.

Since polling began in July, Graham has maintained an edge of 13 to 19 points over Hutto.
